Turkish towel, hammam towel or fouta

They all mean the same thing: a thin, flat-woven towel you can use on the beach, in the sauna or after a shower. Whether you call it a hammam towel or a fouta depends on who you ask; the towel stays the same. It’s woven flat, without the loops of a terry towel, so it feels smoother and folds up thin.

Beach, sauna, bathroom

As a hammam towel for the beach, it spreads out, rolls up and goes back in the bag without the bag turning into mostly towel. In the sauna it lies thin underneath you, and over your shoulders when you come out of the heat. When you travel, every gram counts, and a thin towel slips into your hand luggage without a fight over whether it or the sweater comes along. At home, the thin weave dries faster than terry and takes up less room, on the line and in the cupboard. And on a crowded beach, it takes up less of your patch of sand.

Organic cotton

The organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. It’s soft on the skin and gets softer with every wash, which makes it a towel for ordinary weeks, not just holidays: after swimming, after the sauna, after class. In yoga it works folded under your head in savasana, or as a blanket over your legs while your body cools down.

Care
